Q: Why do we need a Pensioners Association?
A. It takes many years and a great deal of voluntary effort to build up an effective pensioners’ association. With major changes having been made to the TRW Pension Scheme in 2014 and with large numbers of us now paid by L&G, it is better to have a strong Association already in place to represent pensioners’ concerns. We are the only well-organised and well-informed group able, on your behalf, to quickly take whatever remedial measures are available. As individual pensioners we are powerless, but as a large network of pensioners we can be AWARE, have a VOICE and be INVOLVED.
Q: Who appoints the Council of the Association and how are they elected?
A: All Council members are volunteers who have offered their services or have been nominated by other members. The Council is fairly representative, made-up of members from most of the original companies in the UK.
So far, we have never had more volunteers than the number of Council places (16). If ever we are in that happy position, we will hold elections and let our members decide on the best candidates. We also ask members annually for a formal mandate for the current Council members and an opportunity to propose new Council members. We are always open to suggestions from the membership as to how we can improve the way we operate. Our constitution listed in the “About Us” section provides greater detail on this question.

Q: Does the Association have a 'home'? Does it have an address and telephone number? Where do meetings take place?
A: The Association does not have the burden of a fixed location (or headquarters) and the regular Council meetings are normally held in a suitable serviced meeting room in Solihull, this being a convenient location for most Council members. The Association does have a postal address to where mail can be sent, this is: 28, Knighton Road, Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands B74 4NX and several Council members have their phone numbers listed in the Newsletter if you need to speak to them.
Q: If I join the Association, will my details be held securely in the Association's files and not used for any other purpose?
A: Yes - the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) applies, and all information will be held subject to that legislation.
Q: Are there any local branches of the Association?
A: At the moment, the answer is no, but let us know if you are interested in forming one and we will try to provide some help. If you have a Lucas/TRW pensioners social group in your area, we would be happy to discuss some form of affiliation even if it is simply to exchange details about social events.
Q: How is the Association being publicised?
A: We are mainly dependent on word of mouth and to talking to groups of pensioners who meet socially. We have a website – this one: www.lucaspensioners.org.uk
Q: My wife (or husband) was also an employee of Lucas/TRW and receives her (or his) own pension from the TRW Scheme or L&G. Can we both become members?
A: Yes, you are both very welcome to join the Association as two individual members.
Q: When I die will my widow or widower be able to continue my membership of the association?
A: Yes. They would be very welcome to continue with your membership and in their own name. Their membership would be entirely free and they will continue to receive our regular newsletters.
Q: If I join the association as a member, will I be committing myself to any future costs in addition to my joining fee?
A: No. Membership and Associate membership is now completely free. As announced in our November 2016 newsletter, the LTPA Council believes that the Association now has sufficient funds to continue for the foreseeable future.
Q: Can the Association help me with my personal problems relating to my pension?
A: This not the purpose of the Lucas/TRW Pensioners Association or why it was formed. We have no access whatsoever to the ZF UK Pension Plan or Legal & General personal records. We are a voluntary organisation, and we don't have the resources or expertise to deal with individual cases.

Q: Will I be able to locate 'lost' Lucas/TRW friends from my days when I was previously employed at Lucas or TRW.
A: Again, this is not the purpose of the Association. Its objectives are purely to do what it can, when it can, to help protect retirement benefits. We don’t reveal members email addresses, but you can try to contact them by sending a message to us on our website. If he or she is one of our members, we will then forward your message and it is up to them whether they choose to reply to you. Should this lead to any problems, please contact us.
